About the Role

London Cactus College is seeking an experienced Moderator to support our Access to Higher Education Nursing programme. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high-quality assessment standards, ensuring compliance with Gateway Qualifications, and supporting the delivery of excellent teaching and learning within our Further Education provision.

You will moderate assessments, support and guide tutors, and help continuously improve our assessment processes. The role also involves assisting in preparing for external moderation activities to ensure fairness and consistency in student assessment.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out moderation of assessment decisions for Access to HE Nursing units, ensuring assessments are valid, reliable, fair, and consistent.
Sample learner work in line with quality assurance frameworks.
Review and verify tutors’ marking and grading to ensure consistency with awarding body standards.
Lead standardisation meetings and contribute to continuous improvement.
Monitor learner progress and ensure timely completion of moderation activities.
Support preparation for external moderation visits by Gateway Qualifications.
Ensure compliance with Gateway Qualifications procedures, college policies, and QA guidelines.
Maintain accurate records of moderation activities and reports.

Person Specification

Essential

Degree in Healthcare or a related subject, or relevant professional experience.
Assessor qualification (e.g., Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement).
Recent experience teaching, assessing, or moderating Healthcare or Nursing at Level 3 or above.
Understanding of Access to HE Diploma framework and assessment requirements.
Commitment to equality of opportunity and widening participation.
Strong interpersonal, organisational, and report-writing skills.

Desirable

Previous experience in internal moderation for Access to HE Nursing.
Familiarity with Gateway Qualifications’ Access to HE specifications for Nursing.
